Jennifer Larrarte, Yaritza Quevedo, Tatiana Montenegro y Ana Sofía Castillo, students of the Environmental and Sanitary Engineering Program who engaged in the project “Soil, People, the Environment, and Food for Life (SoPEF 4 Life)” Leer aquí;  funded by “100k Strong in the Americas” Innovation Fund, carry out their research internship in United States between May 26th and August 19th.

This project develops solutions for addressing climate change and soil degradation in rural areas of Colombia through a partnership between Lewis University (LU), University of Delaware (UD) and Universidad de La Salle in Colombia.

This research experience is developed by an interdisciplinary group formed by students and professors from these universities, for Tatiana Montenegro “The Exchange of knowledge and experiences are part of the academic and cultural process, necessary to understand the upcoming challenges and their possible solutions”.

Also, Yaritza Quevedo says that “It is quite moving to know that there are many people interested on researching environmental problems, this is vital to promote the human development and the food supply around the word.”

At the same time the students have an academic and cultural agenda that improve their international experience, according to Jennifer Larrarte “This academic exchange has been an opportunity to expand my academic and cultural knowledge (…) we’ve the opportunity to know each other and interact in English and Spanish, have fun, make jokes and, obviously, comprehend the overview of studying abroad.”

Besides Ana Sofia Castillo shares with us her experience about the mobility: “It is an opportunity that have brought multiple learnings and raised expectations for me and for my family due to the fact I’m the first person in my family to go abroad. It is something I’m proud of and it is an incredible and unexpected opportunity that has helped me to grow in many ways.”

The Directorate of International Affairs seeks the transcendence of knowledge beyond borders and promotes opportunities for students with the support of national and international allies.
